About

I do words. News stories and features for print, broadcast and online. It all started when...

Jolene Cargill

..the seasoned news editor at a certain local paper told me that I was not allowed to write for the features pages as a rookie on the news desk. I wrote it anyway. After I submitted the feature the next day I watched half terrified through a window as the editor shouted about rules. They printed it. And I was hooked.
Nine years later, I am a freelance journalist earning a crust in print, broadcast and online media. I have sourced off diary exclusives for a range of newspapers, magazines and radio stations and dabbled briefly as a political reporter. I write features on charities, education, health and social affairs and can turn my hand to just about any subject, which comes in quite handy. Read examples on the articles page.
You can also catch me regularly on news and features programmes on local radio. And I am called on to help local authorities, charities, social enterprises and voluntary organisations with everything from newsletters to marketing campaigns.
